The training was conducted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) through the Road Network Development Project in Conflict-Affected Areas in Mindanao (RNDP-CAAM). The event took place at the Mall of Alnor Commercial Complex from April 15-18, 2024.
The first batch of training focused on planning, design, construction, quality control operation, and maintenance. Relevant topics aimed at enhancing MPW’s capacity were covered, including infrastructure planning, feasibility study preparation, bridge planning, environmental and social impact, and appreciation of the right of way.
Danilo A. Ong, the Bangsamoro Director General, emphasized the vital importance of the program and the crucial role of the ministry in his speech. He stated, “The Ministry of Public Works in the BARMM plays a pivotal role in carrying out the development program of the Bangsamoro Region, as we are primarily responsible for the attainment of socio-economic development of the people in this region through the implementation of quality infrastructure programs.”
DG Ong also expressed his gratitude to the DPWH and the government of Japan through JICA for their long-standing partnership with the Philippines and for benefiting the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The DPWH, through RNDP-CAAM consulting services funded by JICA, aims to achieve economic development, reduction of poverty, and peacebuilding in the conflict-affected area through the improvement and construction of roads and bridges.
Key personnel present during the program included Project Director Benjamin Bautista of DPWH UPMO-Road Management Cluster 1, Project Manager of RNDP-CAAM Dr. Jovito Santos, Deputy Project Manager Engr. Nasser Sinarimbo and District Engineer Ajan A. Ajijul, Sulu 1st District Engineering Office. The training was actively participated by the MPW Regional Office, District Engineering Offices, Regional Project Management Office (RPMO) and various Local Government Units.
